The chocolate lover’s survival guide for Easter

THE CHOCOLATE LOVER’S SURVIVAL GUIDE FOR EASTER

For those of us trying to shed some unwanted kilos, Easter is filled with chocolate egg choices, marshmallow minefields and tasty chocolate bunny temptations.

The good news? There’s no reason why you can’t still enjoy chocolate at Easter when you’re trying to lose weight. Okay, we’re not talking about stuffing your face every chance you get. But a small piece can give your taste buds a sweet treat and may even help you stick to your healthy eating plan.

CHOCOLATE LOVERS’ TIPS FOR EASTER:

  • #1. Down-size your eggs. If you’re planning to have an Easter egg, choose one that’s designed for young kids – it will be smaller, and therefore have less calories.
  • #2. Share. If you gave in and bought six hollow chocolate eggs, immediately give five away to friends, family, colleagues – to anybody, really. The more you give away, the less you can eat.
  • #3. Avoid Easter eggs filled with caramel or sweets – they have way more calories than hollow or marshmallow eggs.
  • #4. Go for plain chocolate – as well as containing more heart-healthy flavonoids, the more intense flavour will satisfy your taste buds more easily so you won’t want to eat as much.
  • #5. Beware of constantly nibbling  – you’ll find it easy to polish off the whole egg. Instead, break off a piece and put the rest out of reach.
  • #6. Keep chocolate in the fridge – as well as keeping it out of sight, chilled chocolate will last longer in your mouth.
  • #7. If you do overindulge, cut down the next day and do more exercise to compensate.
